4. Gdańsk Maraton – Run and Discover!
4. Gdańsk Maraton is an extraordinary route in an extraordinary city! At 9.00, on Sunday 15.04.2018, over 2700 people from 14 countries will participate in another edition of the best marathon event in Poland. On Saturday, over 700 people will partake in sideshow events accompanying 5 km run “5 points for Gdańsk” and the Youth Run.
Running in Gdańsk Marathon will not only allow you to experience the thrill of competition, but it is also a great occasion to wrestle your weakness and surpass your limitations. It is a marvelous, fast and friendly route. It takes only few hours, however during this time, you will encounter great many interesting places, many of which hold a symbolic meaning for the city of Gdańsk. At the same time, it is a wonderful opportunity to finally break all your previous marathon records. The runners themselves, together with the voters on maratonypolskie.pl., decided to award the marathon with the title of the best Polish marathon three times in a row.
Paweł Adamowicz, the mayor of the city of Gdańsk, says: We are proud that so many marathon runners choose to confront their weakness and set personal best in Gdańsk. During each edition, we make sure to guarantee the best conditions possible, so that the participants could make wonderful memories and experience the thrill of true competition.
One loop of the marathon route runs through the best known and attractive locations in Gdańsk: Old Town with Długa street, Long Market with Neptune’s Fountain, The Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers 1970, The European Solidarity Centre, Stadion Energa Gdańsk, and the Ronald Reagan Park. It is an extraordinary opportunity to get to know Gdańsk in the mere span of the 4-5 hours it takes to cover the distance of 42,195 km. The start and the finish line are to be placed in AMBEREXPO center by Żaglowa 11.
For the marathon runners, encouragement is a thing of prime importance. This is why the route has been divided into 13 sections. In those areas, the onlookers will be able support the participants with music, motivating banners, and loud cheering.
Paweł Adamowicz adds: We have planned multiple cheering points, because we know that for the participants, support of the loved ones is essential. We believe that encouragement, motivating banners, and music can carry the runners straight to the finish line! The cheerers in Gdańsk rise to the challenge every year!
The cheerers will be able to watch the runners’ progress in the hall B, on the screen with live broadcast.
In 2017 the winner of the marathon was Rafał Czarnecki /Bliżyn – STS Skarżysko-Kam./ with the finish time of 02:24,32. The best female runner was Katarzyna Pobłocka, with a finish time of 02:51,41 /Lębork – UKS Ekonomik-Maratończyk Lębork – adidasrunning/.
MARATHON RELAY RACE – The route is divided into four parts of different lengths (approx. 16,5 km/8 km/10,3 km/7,4 km) which makes 4. Gdańsk Maraton accessible for everyone!
5 POINTS FOR GDAŃSK – Participation in a 42,195 km run poses a great challenge. However, we want this weekend to be a celebration time for the entire family. At the time when the participants will be given the starting packages, their friends and families will get the opportunity to know the spirit of the marathon, by participating in a 5 km run with the finish line in the exact same point as the marathon run.
The Youth Run – It’s an opportunity for the young people to get a taste of the excitement of their marathon-running parents. The finish line of the run is set in the same place as the one of the marathon. Without a doubt, for many of the participants, this fact alone makes the run appealing. Getting to feel like an adult on the finish line is a wonderful experience!
