Come to the birthday of the tunnel!

On Saturday April 28th we will celebrate the second birthday of the tunnel under the Dead Vistula. On this occasion, a group bicycle ride through the tunnel is planned. It is worth to take this opportunity since the object is not accessible for bicycles on a daily basis.

The ride participants will meet at 11 AM on the Stadion Energa Gdańsk parking lot (the P5 parking lot). The journey starts at noon sharp. It is worth noting that cyclists can join the ride till 12:30 AM due to safety reasons and the organization of the event.

The route

From the P5 parking lot cyclists will ride to the junction leading from Marynarki Polskiej Street on the tunnel exit, then through the route marked by safety barrier, and will return back to the stadium via the second line of the tunnel. The cyclists will continue riding to the harp at the intersection on Aleja Macieja Płażyńskiego with the Pokoleń Lechii Gdańsk Street. Here they will take a route via the junction to Pokoleń Lechii Street, and then through the P1 parking lot return to the P5 parking lot where the journey will end.

Participation in the event is free of charge and there will be other attractions, such as exhibits of unusual bikes, acrobatic shows, first-aid demonstrations and competitions with prizes.

About the tunnel

The tunnel is the only engineering structure in Poland of this length, led under the river and made by a tunnel boring machine (TBM). It is nearly 900 meters long and consists of two lines - each has 2 lanes. The maximum permissible speed has been raised from the initial 50 km/h to 70 km/h. About 25,000 vehicles drive there every day. The tunnel relieved the city centre from a heavy traffic and improved road transport in the whole city.
