A favourite holiday of all Poles is coming very soon – the so called long May weekend. This year the holiday occurs in favour of celebrating. May 1st and May 3rd are Tuesday and Thursday respectively, which means you only need to take 3 days off in order to have a 9-day long holiday. Below you will find some suggestions on how to spend your free time.
As soon as April ends, one of the most common questions is: What will the weather be like in May? This year meteorology experts don’t have good news for us, but there are still a couple of days left, so let's wait. If there is something in this world that you can be sure of (apart from death and taxes), it’s the inaccuracy of weather forecasts.
Poland traditionally celebrates International Labour Day on May 1st. Poland is no exception – this day is celebrated in most countries. A few years ago May 2nd was established as the Polish National Flag Day in order to link May 1st with May 3rd, although this holiday is a normal working day. May 3rd is a strictly Polish holiday - May 3rd Constitution Day, which commemorates the declaration of the Constitution in Poland (1791), the first in Europe and the second in the world.
Due to the spring period and the proximity of 2 days off, some offices and institutions may be closed during the holiday week. However, even if the weather is not good, it definitely won’t be boring in Gdańsk.
For example, come and explore the “Restaurant Week – Chodźmy”. HERE you will find the terms & conditions as well as the list of restaurants participating in the event, which takes place from April 18th-30th. What is it all about? The Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to try a delicious 3-course meal, cooked by the finest chefs in chosen restaurants. There will be also a surprise for the participants. All this is available at a special price – 49 PLN. All you need to do is book a table in advance. Numerous accompanying events are also waiting for you.
For those who like to spend their free time actively, we prepared a bike trip through Gdańsk. The trips take place every day and start at 10:15 AM. You can choose from 3 options: “The most beautiful Gdańsk views”, “Gdańsk Close To Nature”, and “Historic Gdańsk”. The cost of participation is 30 PLN. For details and entries go to: http://www.gdanskbiketours.com/
Now something exclusively for children. Loopy's World has prepared special attractions for small explorers. From April 28th to May 6th the youngest ones will be able to take part in a unique game. Every child can head off on a cosmic adventure, solve incredible puzzles and get a diploma of a ‘Fearless Astronaut’.
Additionally, on May 1st-3rd there will be screenings of theme animations for children at 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00.
Finally, we would like to remind that May 4th marks the official season opening of 100cznia, an amazing place for all kinds of meetings in the Gdańsk shipyard. The gastronomic and cultural offer in a small complex built from containers on the former shipyard site is a real treat for residents and tourists.
More information can be found on the 100czna Facebook prage: https://www.facebook.com/100cznia/
May 1st marks the inaugural season of the Wisłoujście Fortress, which has just been included in the List of Historic Monuments (the list contains only 80 items). It is a magnificent monument and an example of fortification art. For centuries the fortress guarded access to the port of Gdansk, and now it can be visited with a guide. More information can be found HERE.
We also recommend our hotel offers that we have prepared especially with May in mind. You can find the list of places on our website by clicking the “Where to stay” tab.
