A record-breaking summer for Gdansk
Everyone was expecting it, it happened, and a record was broken. With such a great range of entertainment, beautiful weather and the growing popularity of Gdansk, crowds of visitors were attracted to our city. June, July and August saw a total of 1.1 million people visiting, a whole 28% up on the same period last year. Never before has our city enjoyed such popularity.
The trend in recent years continues, with Gdansk every year becoming more popular as a tourist destination, and the summer season seeing a total of 1,068,803 people visiting. Of these, 781 thousand stayed in Gdansk for at least one night, while 287 thousand were day visitors who choose not to stay overnight. Most of the people came from Poland, at slightly more than 677 thousand, while nearly 400 thousand came from abroad.
Most people visiting Gdansk were from our Voivodeship (29.4%), followed by those from the Masovian (nearly 11%) and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships (10.7%). Of those arriving from abroad, Germany has consolidated its leading position (38%), followed by the UK (19.8%) and Scandinavia (18.2%).
Most of our visitors (51.6%) cited leisure as the main reason for their stay. The main attractions visited were the Main City (96.2%), with the beach ranking second (46.3%). Surely this great result was partly due to the excellent weather we had this summer.
Also worth pointing out is the overall high assessment of the stay in Gdansk. On a scale of 1-10, our score was 8.7.
