New antique ornaments discovered in the Main Town City Hall
An interesting discovery in the Main Town City Hall! Conservation work has uncovered hitherto unseen 17th century polychromies on an old metal lattice door inside the Main Town City Hall. The ornaments are already available to visitors.

A lattice door located in the main hall of a historic museum building on Dluga Street was discovered to have concealed polychromies from more than 150 years ago. The lattice blocks access to a staircase leading to exhibition rooms on the first and second floors. Painted all black, it had appeared inconspicuous for a long time. However, during conservation work, it turned out that the dark coat of paint covered colourful details.
The preservation process was far from easy, and the polychromies could only be uncovered using advanced technologies: the black coat of paint was removed using a laser beam.
The lattice can be seen inside the Main Town City Hall. Don’t forget that holders of a Resident Card can enter the Main Town City Hall free of charge once per year.
The discovery was made by Dr Anna Kriegseisen and Dr Katarzyna Darecka. The museum is planning to unveil further discoveries over the next coming weeks.
