St. Dominic’s Fair Communication Card

St. Dominic’s Fair is an event open to everyone. To make communication between exhibitors and visitors easier, a Communication Card has been created – a simple, easy-to-use tool based on pictograms, available in three language versions.

The Communication Card prepared for St. Dominic’s Fair is the seventeenth tool of this type developed by the Gdańsk Tourism Organisation. It has been created in three language versions: Polish, English and Ukrainian, to provide support for the widest possible range of users. The card helps Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, foreigners, and people with speech difficulties communicate more easily.

The tool is in A4 format and consists of thematically organised pictograms that support both sides of the communication process – the exhibitor and the customer. The card includes the following sections:

- Helpful questions (“Can I…”): Allow visitors to ask about the possibility of viewing, touching, trying on or tasting a product, as well as taking a photo or receiving a business card.
- Product details: Help specify size, colour, weight or quantity, and provide key information about taste, ingredients and allergens.
- Sales process and logistics: Includes pictograms related to payments (card, cash, BLIK, euro), issuing invoices (with space for a tax identification number), packaging and discounts.
- Practical information: Helps locate toilets (WC), the information point, opening hours and manufacturer details.

Special situations: Provides space to indicate a request for a return or exchange of goods.

How to use the Communication Card?

Place the card in a clearly visible location for both parties and point to the relevant pictograms. It is important to:

- Use the available space: the other side of the card and empty areas under the pictograms can be used for writing, drawing or adding details about the transaction.
- Adapt the language: when communicating with Deaf people, use simple and direct language. Polish is a foreign language for many Deaf people.
- Be patient: allow yourself and the other person enough time to read the information on the card and indicate the appropriate answer.
