Everyday life in Hanseatic Gdansk

Appearing already in the first half. In the 14th century, the first street names clearly indicated where, for example, specific stalls, service and craft establishments were concentrated. Street names, e.g. Pończoszników, Bednarska, Chlebnicka, Mała Spodniarska, Garncarska, Kakrętcza, Kowalska and Piwna, can be found in many medieval towns. It was on these streets that one could buy the necessary things to meet the basic needs of the population. In port cities, such as Gdańsk, matters of trade and shipping also had their specific places.

They left behind street names such as Powroźnicza, Kotwiczników and Lastadia.In the Archaeological Museum - Blue Lamb, a special exhibition presents the appearance of the Hanseatic Street. Reconstructed interiors of houses, workshops and stalls with the professions of a merchant, baker, barber and blacksmith, together with sound effects, make a very interesting impression. Similarly to the museum's interesting collections of artifacts from the period when Gdansk belonged to the Hanseatic League, including: coins, jewellery, everyday items. Unique items include toys from the 15th and 16th centuries and pilgrim badges.
